On my iPhone 6 (got it for free from my job as a work phone), its so easy to check my live sports stats, throw a tweet or two out real quick, use the calc real quick, see who's currently live on Twitch.tv streams etc. Its come down to me browsing the App Store to download apps for widget integration xD. Apple’s Siri voice assistant stands as one of the primary selling points of the iPhone 4S, which is the only device that includes the feature. Yes, many hackers have tried to put Siri on other Apple gadgets, but they have so far been unstable and otherwise severely flawed. But that is all about to change. As Alex Heath at Cult of Mac reports, Apple has released now released iOS 5.0.1, which includes the Siri code unencrypted, making it possible — and legal — for hackers to port Siri to older versions of the iPhone. The notable change to iOS 5.0.1 was first uncovered (publicly) by well-known iPhone hacker MuscleNerd, who posted the information to Twitter. MuscleNerd notes that iOS 5.0.1 is “the first public 4S ipsw where the main filesystem keys are obtainable (due to non-encrypted ramdisks).” By un-encrypting the Siri code, Apple has made it possible to port the feature to other devices without violating Apple’s copyright. It is entirely possible that … [Read more...] about Apple makes it legal to port Siri to an iPhone 4
The secret features of iOS are popping up left and right this week. On Tuesday, we found out that iOS contains a hidden panorama shooting mode for iPhone and iPad cameras. And now, it turns out that iOS 5 also contains an auto-correct keyboard bar concealed within its bowels. The closeted feature, first reported by Mark Gurman at 9to5Mac, was uncovered by Australian hacker (and 9to5Mac researcher) Sonny Dickson. Unlike the panorama camera mode, which requires jailbreaking your phone — a move that enables a slew of inaccessible features, like downloading unauthorized apps, but can void your Apple warranty — the auto-correct feature only requires some fairly simple finagling. Here’s how to turn it on:1. Dowload iBackupBot (a program that allows users to edit files backed up to iTunes)2. Backup your iPhone/iPad to iTunes3. Open iBackupBot, find your most recent backup and load it.4. Go to: Library/Preferences/com.apple.keyboard.plist and open the file. (Hint: Sonny … [Read more...] about How to turn on the secret auto-correct keyboard for iPhone, iPad
Apple is continuing to roll out the iPhone 4 to international markets, and today the company has announced a huge one: the iPhone 4 wil go on sale in China starting September 25. Apple has also announced two new flagship Apple retail stores—one in Beijing and one in Shanghai—will be opening on the same day. The iPhone 4 will be available from Apple retail locations, as well as from retail locations of carrier partner China Unicom. The September 25 launch of the iphone 4 in China comes just ovee three months after the device went on sale in North America. China represents the world’s largest market for mobile handsets; by reducing the amount of time it takes to bring new iPhone models into the market, Apple cuts down on grey market sales and cannibalization of sales in Hong Kong and other markets as eager Apple fans finagle ways to get iPhones into the country—which usually involved breaking contracts and jailbreaking. The iPhone 4 launch also follows Apple’s … [Read more...] about iPhone 4 goes on sale in China September 25
Have a jail broken phone? Make sure to check out our picks for the best jailbreak apps and games. The developers behind Jailbreakme have released an “official” version of their Jailbreak 2.0 application for the iPhone 4, enabling iPhone owners to jump ship from Apple’s tightly-controlled universe of iPhone applications and install any application they like on their devices—with most of the non-Apple-approved apps being available via Cydia.
