I recommended some commercial screen capture utilities in my previous guide for BlackBerry but you can safely ignore that advice as here are alternate solutions that aren’t just free, some of them will even help you grab images of your BlackBerry screen without having to connect the phone to the computer. Get the free Java Loader Commander utility from BBforums (mirror) and unzip the file to some folder on your hard drive. Now connect the BlackBerry device to your computer via the USB cable and navigate to the screen that you want to save as an image.Open the command prompt and switch to the folder that contains the extracted files. Type JL_Cmder.cmd and press enter. Just follow the simple wizard to save screenshots of your BlackBerry screen. The official RIM command line utility discussed above can be a bit intimidating for non-techies so here’s a standard GUI based application for capturing screenshots of BlackBerry. The utility is called BBScreenshooter and it lets you … [Read more...] about How to Capture Screenshots of your Blackberry Screen

BlackBerry, like most other mobile phones, uses a bar graph to indicate the current signal strength of your cellular network. If you see five bars on your BlackBerry screen, the network signal strength is excellent while lower number of bars may indicate insufficient or poor signal. The bars give an approximate idea of the signal strength but, looking at the bars, you won’t be able to determine minor fluctuations in signal that may occur when you move across different rooms in your house or when you accidentally cover the cellular antenna of the phone with your hands. There’s however an easy ‘cheat code’ that you may use to determine the ‘actual’ network signal strength on your BlackBerry.Hold down the ALT key on your BlackBerry and type the letters NMLL in the same sequence – the bar graph indicating signal strength will convert into real numbers indicating the exact strength in dBm.You can key in the same sequence to return to Bar Graph mode. … [Read more...] about Find the Actual Signal Strength on your BlackBerry

What should you when you accidentally drop your BlackBerry mobile phone in water or the toilet? Well, soak it in rice. This piece of advice has been around for a while but now it has received the official stamp of the BlackBerry support team as well. When actress Denise Richards wrote on Twitter that she had dropped her BlackBerry in a swimming pool, the BlackBerry guys responded almost immediately saying: One thing you can try is putting your BlackBerry smartphone without the battery in a bag of rice and leave it overnight. The rice trick probably works but make sure that you remove the battery before placing the wet phone into rice. … [Read more...] about Dropped your BlackBerry Phone in Water?
